Last week, more polling showing that most Republicans have lost faith in democracy. That makes it easier for Trump, should he regain office, to tear the non-partisan government apart. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/07/17/trump-second-term-democracy/?itid=ap_philipbump
Donald Trump promises a post-democratic second term

To do so, he'll leverage Republican antipathy toward democracy.

The Washington Post
@pbump so are we ready to call republicans anti-American or we’re still waiting for the fascist takeover?
@pbump - Cultivating skepticism about all democratic & legal processes, by fostering extreme gullibility regarding the most elementary aspects of factual reality, is one of the core methods of domination discovered by totalitarianism.
@pbump
Philip, allow me suggest the notion that Republicans have "lost faith in democracy" doesn't quite capture their present mood. A better observation might be that they fear they've lost *control* of democracy. It's something they can't bear.
@pbump “post-democratic?” There is another word for that. (I know you don’t write the headline…)
