Opinion: Why do I hoard more books than I could possibly read? An investigation

After a few years of joining the Kindle cult, I am back to my old bibliophile ways. I do this not just out of compulsion, but aspiration.

Buying or otherwise acquiring books, I now have the time to read them.

I share the author's love of real books and have never succumbed to the Kindle cult. The statistics seem to be about new book sales, so I'm curious about about sales of used books, which are the main source of my supply.

If you buy print editions, which do you buy the most?

I just want to say that I'm very disappointed in 6.96 of you. The other 5.04 people clearly have their heads screwed on right.

@benkaden I think it's a Schopenhauer quote and thus slightly less optimistic: “Buying books would be a good thing if one could also buy the time to read them; but as a rule the purchase of books is mistaken for the appropriation of their contents.”
@Ben Kaden but it's only an illusion as the pile of unread books in my bookshelf proves ...
@benkaden imo same can be said about Steam games 😒
@benkaden On the other hand, I did buy "Godel Escher Bach" back in 1990 and only got around to reading it in 2015. It was worth the extra load on my bookshelf backlog.
@benkaden
sometimes, I wish all these people who have book buying problems would just give their books to people like me, who can't afford books, but then I realize I don't really have much space for books. : )
@llewelly Can't public libraries be a solution for both issues (affordability, space)?
@benkaden
yeah, I do go to libraries, and I should go more, but ...
@benkaden What fun would a library be if youve read everything in it?
@benkaden The three dangerous stores for me, whether brick or online: books, fabric (quilting), and hardware. Just follow me with a mop as I drool over the contents.
