Larry Anderson ๐๏ธ@tewha I've never witnessed a suicide, although I'm the one who found my brother, but I have witnessed someone being killed in a car accident (two cars colliding on a cross street at speed while I was waiting at the light). It's hard to integrate.
@larand I knew that and I've said this before, but I'm still so very sorry Larry. I can't imagine. I tear up just thinking about going through that with my own brother (who's alive).
@tewha Thanks, Steve. I took the burden on voluntarily--the night it happened, I met my nephew down at the harbor where Mike's boat was, and asked him if he wanted to go down to the docks or stay on shore. He chose to stay on shore and I told him it was OK.
I've dealt with death before, and felt he wouldn't be able to handle it. Ironically, Mike could never deal with anything about death either.
@larand That was a very loving gift to your nephew, Larry.
@tewha Since my own father died when I was 9 years old, I have some experience in losing a parent unexpectedly, and quite frankly someone needed to be the adult. My nephew was in shock and my mom was devastated, and at times like that a man does what he needs to do.
Still feels weird that I'm the oldest living male in the family, though.
creednmd@larand @tewha sorry to hear that. I helped cut down a neighbour who hung himself, and administered CPR until medics arrived on scene. Turned out it made no difference, as he was too long gone. Very glad I have aphantasia (inability to visualise things), so canโt ever bring to mind the image of the event, but still sticks with me, and even now wonder what I could have done differently.

Digital Mark ฮป โ๏ธ ๐ฎ ๐ ๐@tewha One of the reasons I left the city, was I'd had enough dead bodies on the streets. I'm not sensitive to the body, but that the place killed enough people for it to be a regular thing. And it wasn't even that violent a place!
