It’s weird the shit people say to you when you’re a white, cis male. Had a guy spend ten minutes today ranting about “fake pronoun shit” until his lawyer, aware that my spouse and I are queer, said “We should talk about the case…”

Note to new lawyers: this is not how you win over opposing counsel.

@BoozyBadger I swear, if some student ever pulls something like that in one of my classrooms, I'm just going to walk out and never show up again.

@NexJql @BoozyBadger

I'd aggressively pull out the Real Neopronoun Shit until that student drops the class.

@BoozyBadger I was having lunch with a coworker when out of nowhere and completely unrelated to ANYTHING we had been talking about he goes, “Why is it all these women keep getting promoted?”

I was like… How did we go from steak marinades to casual misogyny wtf?

@BoozyBadger
Mmmmm... like a co-worker teasing me about "messaging my girlfriend" when they saw me on my phone.
@BoozyBadger Always nice when horrible people clearly identify themselves. Saves the time and effort of having to figure out if they're awful or not.
@BoozyBadger I was surprised at the crazy things I heard from students when I was a TA. At least not racism, but male students said pretty extreme things about female students to me when I was their teacher.

@BoozyBadger I've had people say things assuming that just because I'm white that I would agree with them.

Like a fella who lost his job when an Indian family bought out the hotel he worked at, and they had brought in some Black gentleman to help them get set up, he said to me and other people at the table that those were two races "don't have a reputation for hard work."

There were witnesses so I couldn't stab him with the fork I was holding. He's dead now for other reasons, I think.

@BoozyBadger I don't really pass in person in most circumstances, but on paper, I look very much like an upper-middle-class, white, suburban, cishet housewife. I genuinely love screwing with expectations and survey/poll results.

Online, because I don't have profile pics or a female-coded username, I'm assumed to be a cishet guy a lot. I tend to get treated with a lot more respect than I do if someone clocks me as AFAB.

@BoozyBadger Then again, occasionally my own assumptions get upended. Was sitting in a tire shop in mid 2020 and an old white guy in a trucker hat, seeing the news on the shop TV, absolutely unloaded a massive anti-Trump rant. Gotta love those pleasant surprises.

@BoozyBadger Also, that kind of… …failure to manage one's client doesn't inspire confidence generally. 🙃

Yikes.

@BoozyBadger I held off on transitioning for like 20 years because the industry my career was in was basically all folks like this and I knew it wasn’t safe for me to appear as anyone other than an average white dude to these people.
Once had a family member rant about how much they liked the orange man at a family gathering. Having just realized I was queer, it was a weird experience.
@BoozyBadger It's scary how out of the blue it often comes. An ex co-worker casually dropped during lunch that he'd throw out his son if he came out as gay. A lesbian daughter would have been okay though! And I just sat there thinking "I never want to interact with this person again"
