@gabek wait, isn't this the service owned by John Mastodon? i'm so confused! /s

@gabek

No, no, no! This is Mastodon. It's fun. It's simple. It's easy to use and we don't have Musk or nazis here.

Oh, how does it work?

Well, there's this waycool thing called "the Fediverse." This may take a few minutes, but you're gonna love it...

@stevensrmiller @gabek Mastodon is to the Fediverse as email is to the internet. This seems good actually? What am i missing?

@mh @gabek

If you wanted someone to give email a try, would you start by telling them all about the internet? If you were introducing a person to math, would you start with calculus?

@gabek

I've been trying out MicroblogFedi because that seems a more accurate description as _I'm_ not on kbinsocial or pixelfeed reading this.

@gabek collectively we’ve all done a pretty bad job of making that clear er. The press didn’t help much, by making it sound like Mastodon was the fediverse.

PS
I don’t see a lot of Kangases around. I don’t suppose there’s a remote chance that you’re related to the famous internet legend, the late Steve Kangas, are you?

@shoq Not that I know of! The Finnish used “Kangas” as a suffix and most shortened their last names when coming to the US, so as far as I know I’m not related to many of them.

@gabek

FYI: The Steve Kangas story. Still troubling after 24 years. https://www.salon.com/1999/03/19/feature_216/
