This is a new internet diaspora that feels far worse than Tumblr. Twitter was something integral to the communication system of millions. I am in mourning. It may sound stupid, but I have to take the time to sit with the loss of a once vital communication system.
@frazzledwriter Twitter was how I kept up to date with the news. It was how I followed the pandemic and elections and natural disasters. It was better than not knowing, and now I feel like I have to go back to not knowing. I have news subscriptions that I read too, but it’s not the same.
@zoestertoaster @frazzledwriter If you're looking to keep up with the news-news, https://press.coop/directory is a place to start. They're mirroring news feeds from the bird site. I wonder if there's a standard hashtag here for breaking news stuff yet?

I definitely want something like that but I'm confused by the Hello thing--why does it need account permission to read/write to my account if I go through that entry point? I can't find too much information on it while googling that doesn't seem to want to tie a lot of my digital identities together

@zoestertoaster @frazzledwriter Hello appears to just be a masker between you and where you're logging in (Masto). Maybe? I am not Tech oriented, but here's the FAQ from Hello. https://www.hello.coop/#user-faqs
