if you are an android I would use tusky -- if you are on iOS i would use ivory or ice cubes

take a look at the instances -- see if you find one you like. you can follow people from that instances on other ones

check local & federated timelines, see who is following who, search for topics you are interested

it works a lot like twitter -- just without an algorithm so you have to do a but more work to find stuff you want to see

@venomstench instances are just a bunch of little twitters, being federated means all of the little twitters are connected together and we can interact with each other like one big twitter

i.e. you are on mastodon.social -- which is the big normie twitter and I am on wobbl.xyz which means i am on the fat fur twitter

when you see a domain next to someone's name it is their instance.
