This is why the religious right and their proxy MAGA and their proxy Republicans are freaking out over requiring book bans and the like: 66% of all those aged 30-39 raised as Christian are still Christian, and 21% who were not raised with a religion are now Christian. In the 40+ age group those numbers are 80% and 39%. So they are becoming far less effective at retaining and recruiting to the cult.

#religion #atheism

Looking at the 30-34 age group in 2020 the number of "nones" - religiously unaffiliated - who were raised that way is now at a record 73% vs. 49% in 1990. Compare that to those nones who were raised Christian which is now at 31%, up from 8% in 1990.

So over the last 30 years it's been a two pronged attack on the US Christian cult - people 3x more likely to drop out of it, and a huge growth in those being raised without it.

What we are seeing in the US is groomer panic.

@enmodo Yep. I was raised Christian but Jesus' followers have made me not want to call myself Christian anymore. Now if anyone asks, I might say I'm pagan (or wiccan) for Christ, or I might say I follow the teachings of Jesus.

@Artemis13Athena my mother raised me a Christian (not in this country). Religion never did anything for me but tell me what to do and think, and as soon as I learned something else at school and then university I was done.

My lack of faith was renewed afresh when I came to the US when I learned how toxic the cult is and little they heed core messages of the bible like heal the sick, feed the hungry, look after the weakest among us, and always pray in private.

@enmodo Yes, here in the states many people are praised as good Christians for their behavior which sadly resembles the people Jesus rebuked. I tried several denominations before giving up on the whole mess. Organized religion is merely a way of keeping the populace under control.
