I wouldn't give $8 to Musk for a fake blue check and now he thinks he can be my BANK?
🤣
@petergleick didn’t he say he wanted Twitter to be the West’s version of WeChat?
@petergleick I had the exact thought. Like I would trust someone who has managed, by stupidity, to reduce the value of Twitter by over 50% with my own much lesser funds. I’ll be money ahead to just use my mattress.
@petergleick
He's kinda recycling ideas from when he wanted to rebrand paypal as "X"...
Elon Musk wants to relive his start-up days. He’s repeating the same mistakes.

@petergleick you have to wonder if she knows she’s spewing word salad..?
@petergleick I would prefer my bank not to be powered by some shady and intransparent AI algorithms. I cannot imagine why would you even need that?

@petergleick #FirstThought: If you're going to want to claim to be a bank, I wouldn't put the letters "F", "B", or "X" anywhere *near* the name/branding of the think planning to be a bank.

And yes, I'm aware "Bank" is a common word used in the name of banks, and it starts with a "B", but I'd be frantically looking up alternatives in a thesaurus if this was a thing I was planning on doing.

@petergleick A bank that charges you to keep your money.

@petergleick He’s been pushing x.com for banking for 20+ years

In March 2000, x.com was the online presence of First Western National Bank: https://web.archive.org/web/20000302134823/http://www.x.com/
(This was the first online bank I remember existing and I was a customer!)

By October 2000, x.com served PayPal: https://web.archive.org/web/20001018162409/http://www.x.com/

X.com

@petergleick If he leverages this right, he may be able to destroy the entire financial sector.

@petergleick

Lots of scams n ID theft coming soon to #Twitter -X 🫢
