An immunocompromised person in my family got COVID for the first time, AT THE HOSPITAL because they stopped requiring ANY PRECAUTIONS. No masks, no nothing.

They can't avoid the hospital so that means they'll just have to roll the dice each time they go?

What a cruel world.

Immunocompromised means the vaccine doesn't work as well. So what the current US policy says is equivalent to "you're on your own" good luck! 😡😡😡

@timnitGebru it makes me so furious that *hospitals*, of all places, have stopped requiring masks. Like, as a high-risk person myself (still dealing with the aftermath of my first COVID infection back in March), I’m upset about every indoor place that’s stopped requiring them, but a freaking HOSPITAL?? Like, why would masks EVER not make sense in a hospital setting? I’m so, so sorry for your family member, and I hope they come out of this ok.

@writerethink One of my kids had to spend a couple days in the hospital about a month ago. We both wore masks, and basically none of the staff did. One person (a resident, I think) said more than once “You can take that mask off, you don’t have to wear it”

I’m beginning to think these medical staff don’t *actually* believe in germ theory

@belehaa @writerethink with an AA degree at most, probably slept through physiology
@belehaa @writerethink There are so many (mostly white women, of course) nurses who got their degrees and jobs through nepotism and who have a fundamental disbelief in everything about health and medical science. 🤬
@dalias @belehaa @writerethink @CassandraZeroCovid There is a shortage of nurses, based on generally poor working conditions. And also lack of access to training. That gap is partially filled by religious institutions where education in basic science is limited by doctrine. For example: https://www.ccu.edu/academics/nursing/ as opposed to the University of Colorado.
School of Nursing and Health Professions

CCU’s nursing programs in Colorado include bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees that integrate faith, learning & science, equipping you for a successful career. Apply now!

@writerethink Interesting that replies so far assume ignorance or incompetence. The person who told me we could take our masks off was a doctor – I just don’t recall whether they were resident or attending

My point about germ theory isn’t about training, or even competence. I get the feeling that, for this doctor, germ theory is a memorized fact, not something that they believe/understand at a gut level

@belehaa @writerethink They certainly don't believe in fluid mechanics or evolution (how does a bug capable of being spread by droplets NOT evolve to be aerosol spread, given aerosols are generated by almost every people do, like talking?)
@belehaa @writerethink People should start thinking for themselves instead of listening to others who don’t know the first thing about covid. I can’t believe how gullible people really are.😂
