1/* Oh sure, we all think Otto’s a creep, trading his daughter off to an old man, to insert the Hightowers into the Targaryen royal line, but the Hightowers in general are dodgy as hell. I mean, at least most noble houses have a backstory. Not the Hightowers, they were just sitting there, camped out in their tower on Battle Island when Garth Greenhands and the First Men rolled up. #asoiaf #got #hotd
2/* Really ruins the vibe when you roll up with your nomadic band, calling yourself the First Men, and there the Hightowers are already. Yeah, I know the Daynes will tell you they were there before the First Men, too. Don’t get Gerold talking about it, that boy won’t shut the hell up. But at least they have a story; they followed a falling star; they know how they got there. #asoiaf #got #hotd
3/* The Hightowers, no details, just camped out on an old dragon’s lair with burned out tunnels, with no explanation as to why it’s called Battle Island. None of that stopped Uthor from marrying Maris the Maid, though. Inserted themselves right into the top of the First Men’s social hierarchy, but it pissed off Argoth Stone-Skin something fierce. Probably, the giants were already sick of Hightowers bullshit by that point to begin with. #asoiaf #got #hotd
4/* That’s what they do. They are like one of those invader ants that takes over other hives, killing the queen and secreting pheromones ‘n shit. Did the same thing to the Andals, probably. The text doesn’t say, but yeah let’s assume. The Andals invade, chopping down Weirwoods, slaughtering the Children of the Forest, denouncing the Old Gods, kill Tristifer whatshisface and the Hightowers are all, “I for one embrace our new Andal overlords!” #asoiaf #got #hotd
5/* They build the Starry Sept, so they can control the Andals through religion via the High Septon. They send everyone a Maester through Citadel… oh yeah, they founded the Citadel a long time ago. One of the Hightowers just collected warlocks, pyromancers, magi, shadow dancers, and like carnival acts and stuff, and they formed the Citadel for “knowledge”, but really so they can send their agents out to all the major houses. Shout out to Barb Dustin. #asoiaf #got #hotd
6/* Then they do the whole thing over again, when Aegon I and his sisters roll up. Yeah, the High Septon told Lord Manfred to surrender, that’s totally the way it happened. The High Sepoton doesn’t tell the Lord of the Hightower anything. And of course, Manfred offers Aegon his daughter, because he is gross like Otto. #asoiaf #got #hotd
7/7 Who are these people even? Why don’t the Hightowers have physical descriptions, even? Like none. You know who has a description? Margery’s mom, but you have to look at family trees to know she’s a Hightower. She has silver hair, silver! Which makes sense, because you think she’s old, but then you look at the dates. It turns out she is like 35. Why does this family that’s been sitting on a burnt out dragon’s nest for thousands of years have Velaryon hair? Why? #asoiaf #got #hotd

@durrandon
Jorah's ex looks like Dany. The Targaryens, Daynes & Hightowers could all have the same source. It would make sense if the Daynes had another family traveling with them following the star, but when they arrived, the Hightowers did their own thing, rather than staying as secondary to the Daynes.

Have you heard the theory that the maesters started out as slaves & that's why they wear collars?
