all i'm asking for here is qualifiers, reasons, something to base the negative reception of firefish. to me it's the most viable misskey fork and i'll probably end up hosting it soon, but if there's some irredeemable bullshit about it, or anything surrounding it i'd like to fucking know
@gamer i think it's the brand speak

"new way to communicate" "firefish cares about you"

I support calc always tho
@gamer I don't think it's irredeemable but the main concerns about it are:
- firefish being trademarked by a UK tech company, which could mean legal trouble for the project & instances that use "firefish" in the domain name
- the hype marketing around it turning some people off
- moving to a git instance that turned out to have nasty owners, then moving git instances multiple times as a result -- do understand why they don't want to keep using codeberg tho
- some developer drama around attributions (again)
@gamer so far the trademark thing they've been totally silent about it, not sure what is going on on their side regarding that
@[email protected] dev drama is stupid and that whole attributions thing is overblown anyway

regarding trademarks, i don't know how this will go since i'm not a lawyer but i doubt they'd be going after other instances that use "firefish" in the name. it's a bad pr move and this project seems to really care about it's public image

hype being bad vibes i understand, but i don't consider it an issue personally

i see these as valid points, but there's still something nagging at me regarding this whole situation, i'm just not sure what
@gamer you thinking about moving this instance back to calckey/firefish?
@koimoa i dont have a say in that, remember @Weeble is queen here
@gamer @koimoa Maybe depending how bad misskey fucks up
