Last week I got a side assignment to do a small-sample audit and evaluation of how well our SUBSAFE program is doing.

I noticed now in all the engineers' offices and cubicles, beside all the motivational pictures of Thresher, they all have pictures of Titan.

Also right outside my office window I can see the banged-up Connecticut. After all the first-hand stories I heard, she should not reasonably have made it home. But she did. Good story.

The Story Of How The Submarine USS Connecticut Crashed

This is the how USS Connecticut ended up impacting a seamount, which required the crew to fight to keep the badly damaged submarine from sinking.

The Drive

“The letter addressed ‘inadequate supervisory oversight, ineffective accountability practices, and superficial self-assessment.’”
