Misuse of power in research. It's a huge problem in Germany.

I've observed it many times. At all institutions that I worked at.

My observations are consistent with a new documentary by @ZDF

Speak German? -> watch it: https://www.zdf.de/dokumentation/die-spur/diespur-metoo-machtmissbrauch-tatort-uni-102.html

Here's a post I recently wrote about misuse of power and my personal struggles with it (no connection to the documentary):

Tatort Uni

Erniedrigungen, Mobbing, sexualisierte Übergriffe - im Wissenschaftsbetrieb häufen sich Fälle von Machtmissbrauch. Haben unsere Unis und Hochschulen ein #MeToo-Problem?

Die Spur
@HeidiSeibold @ZDF Do you think it would be an improvement to split the supervisor role from the examiner role, like it is common in Scandinavia?

@stefanwagner
I also think this is an important step - it does raise other issues, but imho it solves many more.

Already, like, not grading a PhD thesis would help...

Disclaimer: haven't watched the docu, but the issue is long-standing
