Seeing comments like this is like seeing a battered spouse make excuses for their abuserās behavior. Sure, you could do all those workarounds, but why should you have to put up with it?
Have some self-respect, kick Windows to the curb, and get an OS that actually respects your property rights as owner of the computer by actually doing what you want it to do instead of letting a corporation weaponize it against you.
I donāt use Windows as a daily driver, but I still need it for some things, most of them work related. I assume a lot of people are in this situation.
That being said, while I appreciate evangelizing software that doesnāt turn you into a commodity, I donāt appreciate the domestic abuse comparison.
I donāt appreciate the domestic abuse comparison.
Too bad, because itās apt nonetheless. And you should be shocked, not because you think Iām making light of domestic abuse, but because Iām forcing you to consider how harmful corporate abuse is.
Corporate abuse may be less severe than domestic abuse from an individual, but itās so much more widespread that it risks becoming normalized in society. They are trying to do no less than destroy our property rights, infantilize us with learned helplessness, and turn us into serfs to be milked for rents. From that collective perspective, corporate abuse could arguably be considered an even worse problem overall because it harms everybody including bystanders who had no say in the matter instead of just the metaphorical āspouseā who made the choice to stay with the abuser.
