'Enshittification' and social media for academics - ABC Radio National
Academics are often encouraged to get on social media to promote their work and drive up citations. But a process called 'enshittification' is making this increasingly useless.
@thesiswhisperer I was talking about this today with my supervisor and wondering how much real world impact social media really has in my field. I've run field days, presented at community talks and seen local land managers run with the information they've learnt there. To me that's worth a hundred likes, retweets or citations.
@thesiswhisperer resonated big time w me, especially around the institutional thirst for engagement. Would love to discuss further when you have a moment
