I don’t think it’s fair to call it -flation. It’s entirely optional, yeah the prompts are annoying as hell, but for me I’m almost glad because now I don’t feel bad for not tipping. I still do at a sit-down restaurants, but this was the push I needed to stop feeling obligated to tip at the register, etc.

Obviously the ideal is no tipping culture at all, but within the bounds of what we as individuals can control, this isn’t terrible.

Unfortunately, tipped work provides some of the last options for people without advanced degrees to earn a living wage in the U.S., so eliminating tipping won’t turn out all roses.
