In what mad universe is a politician so incompetent they nearly destroyed the pension system in less than two months worth a salary that works out at £32M a year?!?

Liz Truss paid £15,770 an hour for second jobs - as outside earnings of MPs revealed

@cstross Maybe if you are a company destroying the pension system?
@cstross if we'd paid her that rate to do absolutely nothing in her two months in office we'd be billions ahead, so I can see how it might work...

@cstross
It's not even as though the money is to buy influence. Surely she has no influence, right?

Besides, is there anyone whose ear is worth £15k to whisper into for an hour, who you'd want to be accessing by playing a game of whispers via Liz Fucking Truss?

I think some people have way more money than sense, and they enjoy playing at Being Rich People by very aggressively not caring about value for money.

@petealexharris Truss *is* in tight with the Tufty Club and the Tufty Club has Tories on all its tentacle tips (and quite a few Labour front benchers too) as well as famously opaque funding from non-dom billionaires.
@cstross
Actually, yeah, maybe it's shrewd to have your go-between for sinister machinations be too thick to understand what's going on.

@cstross So, India just sent something to the moon for £58M, so almost for the price of two Liz Trusses, we can send her there too.

I think that's something we can afford.

@hittitezombie @cstross Don't we (the UK) still give India Foreign Aid ?
@Roadwarrior29 @cstross This launch is relatively cheap compared to the effort. Also it's an investment for the future tech industry, also it's a big country. Finally we should be able to afford the foreign aid, or could before Brexit.
@Roadwarrior29 @hittitezombie Direct financial aid to the Indian government ended in 2015. The budget for "aid" since then has diminished and is now basically a subsidy for British exports.
@hittitezombie @cstross
Didn't they send something to Mars at around that price point a few years ago?

@hittitezombie

@cstross

It would be cheaper; you don't exactly care about the return.

@hittitezombie Until recently you could have sent her to the Titanic for like £200,000.
@hittitezombie @cstross
Surely, we don't need to send her all the way...? Just anywhere out of the atmosphere will do
@cstross Like rust, grift never sleeps.
@cstross It doesn't take a mad universe...just a corrupt one.
@cstross it makes more sense when you realise ‘speaking fees’ is a typo, it’s meant to be spelled ‘B-R-I-B-E’
@cstross from each according to their incompetence; to each according to their contact list
