Threads has been down for me like this since last night. I'm in Italy. I can't view my profile, notifications, or post. But I can read my timeline.

Maybe they figured out a way to block some parts of the app in Europe? 🤷‍♂️

@viticci It is almost certain that #European users were locked out of #Threads based on their account location. #VPN or other means do not resolve the issue. If you create a new account while an US VPN is active, you can use Threads in Europe.

@bensen @viticci

I’m sitting in a hotel in #France and was able to set up and use a new account based on my otherwise Canadian profile. I don’t think it’s geolocation of your access point.

I don’t see the appeal yet, but that’s an entirely different problem.

@8r4d @viticci based on the current "issues" Meta has with the EU and "data transfers", I can imagine Meta cutting the last cords to separate eu user data centers from US ones. Plugging leaking data holes if you will.

So far it seems like if Meta assumes, based on your previous usage, that the majority of your account data is used/generated inside the EU, your account will be locked to EU data centers and you are out of luck regarding Threads. If it's mainly US based, you can still access it.

@bensen @viticci I can confirm that VPN won’t solve the issue. I’m based in Germany and have used my Instagram account mainly in/from Germany. Creating a second account while using a VPN? Not worth the trouble…
