“[Musk]is censoring speech that he doesn’t like and amplifying speech that he does and he’s picking the people that he wants to have a voice on the platform and silencing others,” Rathbone DeBuys, a content creator in New Orleans https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/07/13/twitter-creators-payments-right-wing/
Far-right Twitter influencers first on Elon Musk’s monetization scheme

The first beneficiaries appear to be high-profile influencers like Andrew Tate, DC Draino, Ian Miles Cheong, Benny Johnson and Ashley St. Clair.

Who could have predicted this was about attention and not speech

@taylorlorenz

it's horrible but isn't every service with an algorithm doing this? this is why I'm here where only the public gets to collectively decide what goes viral, but even most journalists are fine with systems that pick and choose. most people are only complaining when it favors stuff they hate. they desperately want these undemocratic systems to force their content on everybody else.

@taylorlorenz I think it says something that Musk is willing to pay $20K to a sexual predator/trafficker who's in lock-up. Something that the FBI needs to be investigating right now...
@taylorlorenz And let's not forget all the millions of people who consider Taint a role model. Who knew there were that many criminals running loose in the world?
@taylorlorenz
There is no new information in this message, it's redundant (It's still true).
@taylorlorenz they’ll go broke even faster now 😂
@LP95 @taylorlorenz He and his backers don't care if it goes bankrupt. All they care about is amplifying fascist ideology.

@InorganicFella @LP95 @taylorlorenz

😆

simply bc

fascist = tax avoidance

(at least tax avoidance for the puppeteers)

@InorganicFella @taylorlorenz there are ways to amplify facism that don’t involve setting $30 billion on fire. Musk wants to make profit in this, he’s just failing badly at it. And the banks are just there about the money.
@LP95 @taylorlorenz I would agree but it isn't only banks. Foreign interests not aligned with democracy apparently have a stake in this.

@taylorlorenz Jeez, just stop with the ”content creator” thing.

Also it’s not a ”platform”. When you pay people to write stuff you’re running a publication.

@taylorlorenz Mission accomplished. Used 44 billion to derail an influential platform and turn it far right. Its a steal at that price basically!

@taylorlorenz

a whole new understanding of freedom of speech 🤔

@taylorlorenz Now That's What I Call "Free Speech"
