Viral 'blasphemous' video draws flak - Lemmy.world

I’m not religious but I can see why people would be offended by this, regardless of who did it.

That being said, nakahanap na naman ng excuse mga homophobes/transphobes to spout hate-filled and mean-spirited comments just because they have a valid reason. 🙄

Honestly, I don’t see why people are offended. I don’t see any disrespect done in the video. This is a case of people being overly sensitive. Book of Mormon is much worse at mocking the religion and it’s accepted if not well-liked by the Church of Latter Day Saints.
@cottonmon @decadentrebel As a Catholic, Jesus' portrayal as a drag queen is seen as offensive because it can be perceived as undermining the deep reverence we give to His divine nature. While drag is a valid art form, its elements of parody and satire can reduce His sanctity to a caricature. Our faith urges respect for religious figures like Jesus, and such portrayal may not uphold that respect, even if it's not a criticism of drag culture or its participants.
That portrayal of Jesus is only offensive to those who hold the power to control how Jesus should be imagined/portrayed. Anyone who imagines Jesus differently is challenging that power and is a threat, like how Jesus was treated as a threat by those in power back then.
Is Jesus really being portrayed as a drag queen here? It seems more like the reverse, with a drag queen portraying Jesus. The portrayal itself doesn’t appear to have any elements mocking the figure. If anything, it seems like it’s trying to be as respectful.
