No other major democracy in the world provides life tenure for high court judges. It’s time for Supreme Court term limits. Here’s our proposal: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/policy-solutions/supreme-court-term-limits
Supreme Court Term Limits

Staggered 18-year terms would bring regular turnover to the bench. The result would be a Court that better reflects prevailing public values.

@BrennanCenter great idea. Won't happen in under a decade or even two.

In the meantime plz support expansion which can happen with just a few more Senators and some twisting of Bidens arm.

@BrennanCenter Allegedly, the primary goal of life tenure is to insulate the public official(s) from external pressure.
Whereas that evidently does not preclude the likelihood, that some public officials frankly do not wish to resist external pressure, if it's combined with luxurious amenities, monetary recovery & ideological/partisan compatibility.

@BrennanCenter There’s simply no way the Court will uphold a de facto rewrite of Article 3 Section 1, even with some justice emeritus scheme as a side benny. But agreed, it makes for great fundraising.

@BrennanCenter
I have a different proposal. Totally separate the SC from manipulation from either the President or Senate.

Make the SC kind of a jury, with members randomly selected from the pool of federal judges. Every 2 years select a different 3. This way each judge is a member for 6 years. After their term the move back to the federal courts. This would be very hard to stack.

Presidents and the Senate have proven themselves too irresponsible to trust in building the court.
