Dear journalists: Facebook and Google are not "quashing" media outlets in Canada. They're declining to participate in the government's (and media's) extortion scam, which demands payment for sending traffic to media sites.
@dangillmor Nah this is a bad take. The whole arrangement is a supposedly symbiotic relationship where one side has turned parasitic. Yes, Google et al. do send traffic to news outlets, but they also keep the ad revenue that news sites rely on while news content proliferates on their platforms and clearly contributes to those platforms' popularity and success. I don't know the specifics of that Canadian law, it might be shit, but I agree with the general idea.
