Building a popular posts widget in Eleventy using Plausible analytics • Cory Dransfeldt

I took some time last week to build out a popular posts widget after seeing Zach's implementation using Google Analytics.

Wherein I lift code from @zachleat
@cory @zachleat What a great idea! I'm super impressed by what you can do with Eleventy plugins.
@jmj @zachleat I'm still not entirely sure I'm doing things right but I love it (and I suppose that's true of most things in life)
@cory @zachleat There is no wrong way to do things as long as it works. At least that's what I tell myself.
@jmj @zachleat yep! With me it's usually hack away until it works, optimize later. 🤞🏻
@cory love this! thanks for sharing 😄
@josh absolutely! It was a fun one to build out 🤓
@cory definitely stealing it for my own site 🫣
@josh haha please do! 🫡🚀
@cory Oh I absolutely need to do this.
@robb it was on my list for a bit and now I need something else to break
@cory excellent! I need to move off of GA asap
@zachleat 🫡 it’s hard to escape something that ubiquitous — I think Fathom’s got a nice GA importer but I don’t know what their api looks like
@cory @zachleat Can confirm Fathoms API is solid. (Referral link if you’re thinking of using them https://usefathom.com/ref/IXCLSF)

Fathom Analytics
@cory @zachleat I first escaped GA thanks to my own Matomo instance, but I recently removed all analytics from my personal sites. 🤷‍♂️
@nhoizey @zachleat that’s a pretty compelling choice too 😅
