Just went through this in St. Petersburg today. That's a bike lane between a turn lane ramp coming off of one stroad (Ulmerton) and a two-lane ramp of thru lanes coming off an intersecting stroad (Roosevelt). Someone's gonna get schmucked.
@MarsdenTheMartian Oh yikes! I used to go through there all the time as a kid. I knew they had built ramps, but I didn't know they were putting a bike lane in there! Yeah, that's a bicyclist death waiting to happen.
@officialunofficialjdc Yeah, they apparently decided to just use the right shoulder of both Roosevelt and Ulmerton as bike lanes with no separation from motor traffic at all. It's everything you're NOT supposed to do with bike lanes.
@MarsdenTheMartian Jesus. Yeah, I hope the first person to suffer an injury sues the hell out of the FDOT for that. That's insane.
@officialunofficialjdc You ain't kiddin'. Thankfully it's not FDOT I'm contracting with at the moment, I'm working on a project with Belleaire.
@MarsdenTheMartian Oh, nice! Anything I might know of?
@officialunofficialjdc Are you familiar with the country club area?
@MarsdenTheMartian You mean "the back way to downtown Clearwater?" 😉
@officialunofficialjdc That would be the one! It's gone from less of a "back way" to more of a "Fort Harrison is two blocks too far" way, so they're trying to find ways to add a little capacity while still maintaining the quiet nature of the neighborhood. Of course, that's not how it works, but that's what I get paid to tell them 😆
@MarsdenTheMartian 😂 Well, y'know, if they hadn't built a damn golf course right on the harborfront...

@MarsdenTheMartian 😮 ⁉️

So wait, if you want to turn right on... what is that, 34th? From I'm guessing that's the Roosevelt ramp above Ulmerton? And you have that ~tiny~ little distance to do it in before the bike lane is "protected" by solid lines again (which nobody ever ever EVER pays attention to)?

Yeah, that's practically entrapment for vehicular manslaughter.

@LillianClaireMarsden And knowing you, you'd probably prefer to ride in the motor lanes because it would be safer since people would actually be paying more attention to you.
@MarsdenTheMartian Uh, YEAH! I'll strap on my orange vest and take my chances instead of facing certain doom in ~that~ death trap. What the hell were they thinking?!
