Can newpipe even take legal action? isn’t the project itself against YouTube’s terms of service? I say this as a newpipe user myself that depends fully on them to watch youtube.

An illegal DMCA request is actionable. IDK how likely that anything actually comes of such actions financially, but there have been injunctions granted to reverse requests that aren’t reasonable.
