I know there’s a bunch of librarians, academics and possibly curators among my followers and I would love it if you could give me a couple of tips: What institutions out there are acquiring artist books (or word-based art) for their collections, and how do I go about suggesting my work to them?
@majnouna I'm none of those things so can only mention the experience of a letterpress book artist and poet, and lifelong friend of mine, who died last year. The British Library has I think a complete collection of his books, as does the Library of Congress; the V&A has some. Aside from their aesthetic value, his books are expensive because of their very substantial format with multiple impressions per sheet. He got them into collections via printed and online catalogues – and sheer persistence.
@sallyjeffery @majnouna sounds like the inimitable #KenCampbell, he was a good friend of my Dad's. I remember him telling me about he “hawked his books around” like a travelling salesman to get a foot in the door!
@natureworks @majnouna That’s the one. Books still here I think brokenrules.co.uk
