@semioticstandard @Taffer so, uh, what happened between then and now that had him lamenting how Threads couldn't launch in Europe due to privacy regulations?
@kboyd @semioticstandard I’m assuming bribery, but I have a very low opinion of politicians and corporations…
@Taffer @semioticstandard assuming that gruber got bribed, you mean?

@kboyd @semioticstandard I thought this was about EU data protection giving up on keeping data out of the US, d’oh!

Facebook probably found a cheaper way to spy on everything. But, I think they also gave up on their VPN?

Linked article: April 2020, anti-facebook

Last week, gruber toot: seemingly pro-facebook by way of lamenting that Threads refused to launch in EU due to privacy regs.

I'm wondering what changed with gruber.

@kboyd @semioticstandard oh, probably bribes then, maybe he’s bought stock

@Taffer @semioticstandard this is the post in question, btw: https://mastodon.social/@gruber/110667962169426329

I've helped to implement GDPR compliance. It's a good protection for users, and it's not that onerous. Proper deletion. Proper exporting. Should be table stakes for any company's software.

His post felt like he was down bad with capitalist brainworms.
