I’m gonna say this here because it comes off like I’m defending Musk if I say it on Twitter & saying it on Threads is what they want.

STOP TRYING TO REHABILITATE MARK ZUCKERBERG INTO SOME KIND OF COOL FUN MAN OF THE PEOPLE.

Facebook joined up with Cambridge Analytica to play a huge part in spiking the 2016 election & turn all our parents’ brains to cracked bowls of screamgravy.

I fucking hate Musk but that shit is worse than anything he’s done.

Yet, anyway.

@FreakyFwoof @catvalente Oh, I just think a platform is fun, Not the people doing it. I hate the politics of it, I think if ppeople enjoy a platform, let them enjoy a platform.
@SirMars @catvalente I think people enjoying a platform without thinking about where it came from is incredibly blind. It's hard to enjoy a platform when the scars of Cambridge Analytica are still with us today. Why would you voluntarily join up with something run by someone so incompetent, so egregiously immoral, so willing to release something earlier than planned, just for the lols?
The app could have come off the production line polished and amazing. Yes, it would still be bad, but it would be polished bad.
No Hashtags. No alt-text. Seemingly no way to sort your feed into people you actually, you know, follow.
Is this your idea of acceptable? It's certainly not mine.
@FreakyFwoof @catvalente Oh I haven't joined it, but I think alot of people are just sick of all the stuff the other place left them with. And so many people already have ties to that service. Plus, on the outer surface, I kind thought it was funny it just popped up when it did. I really don't take social media that serious honostly, I just enjoy people. That is why I had 14 years with the other place curating my follows and likes so I didn't see anything I didn't want to see.
@SirMars @catvalente There will be studies done 50 years from now, about how social media defined a generation. You should really care about it. Not to love it, or because it's 'The In Thing' but because people's lives really are influenced by it. Even if you aren't interested in it, do you want one of your friends/family to upload their contact book to the platform and now you're in their database? Stuff like this is beyond your control admittedly, but you should very much care about how your data's used, whether it's within your control or without.
Even if you never set foot on the platform, likely some portion of you will be there whether you like it or not, and you've no idea what they'll do with that data.
@FreakyFwoof @catvalente Well, as we all know, family and friends already have a facebook and an instagrame. I think they have the info already. many many years ago. Saving their data is long over. Unfortuantely.
@SirMars @catvalente I felt the same about clubhouse when it came out. Brand new chat app from a never heard of dev, didn't really care for it. Felt very shady at the time. Still around now, but can count the amount of times I've used it on one hand.
@FreakyFwoof @catvalente Oh ya, I never used Clubhouse. I think it was really neat platform for up and coming music and art and other things. I betcha it kinda petered out from what it originally was. I hear the audio quality got pretty good though.
