@beforewisdom As others are pointing out, federation (not being centralized) is a must. Also, Kbin definitely needs more polish, but it already looks better than Squabbles.

I did register on Squabbles, but quickly decided it's not for me. I'll be sticking with Kbin and Mastodon, thank you very much.

Given kbin also has a microblogging interface, I’m curious why you still use mastodon?

@maegul @beforewisdom It's a different mode of interaction, I guess. Kbin is pretty new and its microblogging goes by hashtags, not by people I follow. So I use Kbin more for Reddit-like discussion threads, often in more long-form (as my Mastodon instance has a 500 char cap).
But I also enjoy the more Twitter-like feed of slices of life from interesting *people* found on Mastodon, especially since I found elk.zone with its zen mode.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just oldskool...

@manvanaarde @beforewisdom but you could just follow people on kbin as you do on mastodon right?

Not to challenge having different accounts for different vibes

@maegul @beforewisdom There doesn't appear to be a Kbin feed of people I follow...

@manvanaarde @beforewisdom

Riiiight ... I've only superficially used kbin unfortunately, and never really appreciated this.

I always presumed that the "microblog" section was the same as a mastodon feed. Instead it's a view of the comments (not posts) from the magazines.

#Lemmy itself isn't far from this with its comments view, except the comments aren't threaded. Interesting.

So then kbin's main integration of actual microblogging is folding hashtags into magazines.

Right?

@maegul @beforewisdom There's the top level microblog which is just a random feed with comments from all federated instances. Then each magazine also has its microblog, which is indeed filtered by hashtag. And each magazine can set its own associated hashtags.

But currently it's not possible to get a feed on Kbin with just comments from the people you follow.

Hey guys,

My Mastodon post, which started this thread is my review of the #RedditAlternative Squabbles.io.

I didn't write anything about KBin.

Why not start your own thread, fresh about KBin?

Thanks either way

#Squabbles

@beforewisdom @manvanaarde

If you want to be removed from the thread, that's ok ... it's a common problem and I get it ... but threads going off in their own directions is kinda the point, right? I don't think it makes sense to try to sort of "own" the thread and limit what we are all able to talk about it.

And even getting into the details ... you posted a review of a non-fediverse platfrom to *the* fediverse platform. That makes it essentially about any fediverse alternatives too.
