Science Friday! This week's newsletter is about Universal Hydrogen, a startup that builds modular hydrogen fuel cells for airplanes, plus a conversion kit for regional jets. Plus a little bit of a deep dive on what makes hydrogen better for air travel and even rockets, and wistful musings about quiet jets that only emit water. We can have this future!!! https://open.substack.com/pub/mollywood/p/what-if-airplanes-only-emitted-water?r=1im2y&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post
What if airplanes only emitted water?

Green hydrogen can absolutely replace jet fuel. It will take will and logistics, and this week, I'm talking to the company that's working on the logistics part.

@mollywoodpro honest question to the most technical person I know! I’m def not an expert in this area but is hydrogen a pipe dream? Seems like lots of companies like Toyota and others been promising hydrogen for decades and it’s still “right around the corner” . Will we get fusion before we get hydrogen?
@jamescragle oh definitely not. Hydrogen is already here. The big barrier to hydrogen is simply the infrastructure, and of course you want to make it using renewable energy, otherwise it's inefficient to use energy in order to make energy storage. Most people think it needs to be used at the place that it's made because of the difficulty in transporting it. But it's not a technical risk, it's just logistics!
