Cognitive dissonance is two headlines days apart:

Today was the warmest day on earth in 125,000 years.

Today was the day with the most planes in the air at one time ever in history.

@bethsawin this does not in any way address the systemic implications of or solutions to that problem, but some happy news from this week that at least is a move in the right direction: the Dutch government won a court case that’ll now allow them to reduce the number of flights at Schiphol Airport.

Finally! I protested for this very thing 30 years ago. Nice to finally be heard.

@mcv @bethsawin quite frustrating that the reason is noise reduction and not, y’know, drastically reducing emissions so that we don’t make an unliveable Earth. Happy for the residents nonetheless, of course.

This from the article has me laughing:
