After using all these interchangeably for a bit, (including MetaText), I’ve settled on sticking to these 3. These are the “finalists”, so to speak. 😁
Sadly Radiant is out. If you are somewhere other than the top of your timeline, leave or close the app, and return, it scrolls all the way up automatically. 🙃
@tashen your experiment seems like it’ll end up in a great blog post, declaring a clear winner.
I’m eager to see which one you’re choosing. I’m currently using Ivory beta. I may go for Mona if I really stick with Mastodon.
@Theclassicbee Haha, I don’t have nearly enough time or patience for a blog post on this. 😅
Currently it’s between Mona and Wooly. Mona’s nice because of the customisation and its popularity means it probably won’t be abandoned and will get new features and support etc.
Wooly I just like for its design and simplicity.
@Theclassicbee are you considering something other than Mastodon?
@tashen I don’t like any social media these days. So I’m not investing in any of these apps/platforms. Not even posting anything much. It’s just not worth it.
@tashen Same here. Radiant seems like a promising app, but keeping my position between reading sessions is a must.
Trying out the web view added as an icon on my Home Screen.
Every app has had its pros and cons but everything is so scattered between them. I couldn’t find an app that has everything I’d like in it.
Well, after this whole adventure today, I’m back to where I started even before Ivory. Good ol’ “Toot!” The app serves all I need, and I like the aesthetics fine, though I can get bored of it.
I know I’ve been on about apps all day today, but forgive me – this should be the last I post about it… I’m trying Wooly again. Couldn’t stop thinking about it. Hopefully the dev keeps up work on it. It’s got so much potential beyond what it already has. Love its design.

Wooly has no rich previews for links.

Edit: looks like it does. Seen one or two posts that don’t have it though. Strange.

Mastoot doesn’t have dynamic text size support so the text size stays the default size. Also the posts all have no buttons, interactions all rely on gestures. 🙃
and the layout of text and icons on the bottom of each post is ordered a bit strangely.

I feel my experience with this experiment has been “x app is perfect, except this one thing that y app does better, but everything else in that app isn’t as good as it is in x app.” Gosh.

@tashen The app talk has really inspired me to analyze apps a lot deeper than I do. Hell, I'm going to create a blog to write about my varied findings on apps and other topics.
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds glad to hear I was able to inspire that! Be sure to link me to it once you’ve got it up. I’d love to give it a read. ☺️
@tashen Will do, as I still need to figure out which Blogging Platform is right for me. It's going to be a decision boss battle. 😂
@tashen what was missing from ivory?
@Joekw for one, custom server emojis. Not a big deal _at all_, but it just feels like it will be a while before we get substantial updates adding this and/or other “nice-to-have” features I can’t really think of at the moment. Which I don’t mind - whatever they put it out is always premium quality stuff, but honestly, there are so many other clients out there with so many other features so I wanted to try them all out. It’s always nice to try other apps.
@tashen Reading about your app journey is pretty interesting...I almost feel like doing the same but for Android!
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds It’s always an interesting adventure! I do enjoy exploring and testing different apps. ☺️
@tashen There's something playful about the testing process which I really appreciate myself. As you learn all the eccentricities of each app, no two apps will be the same too!
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds Yup! Both a pleasure and a frustration, finding out “x” app has features you love and just one quirk or issue you don’t, and “y” app doesn’t have that issue but also don’t have the features you love from “x” app. 🙃
Sadly a mixed bag of results overall. Unfortunately there isn’t one that I’ve been able to comfortably settle on.
@tashen Is Fedilab available on iOS? That's the app for me as it has everything which I crave in a highly functional package! It's a buy once and enjoy type of app, not very expensive for everything one gets from it.
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds It does not seem to be. 😔
@tashen Ivory for Mastodon is in early access on the Play Store...I find it curious that the Fedilab creator hasn't done the same for iOS. 🤔
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds umm, are you sure it is? I don’t think Tapbots develop their apps for Android…
@tashen I looked at the Ivory for Mastodon and the developer is named Asko Nomm so you're right! I didn't catch that difference initially as my focus was on the name
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds shows how easy it is to deceive on the Play Store 😅
@tashen Yep, its usually why I only download anything after carefully examining the app, developer, and permissions.
@tashen i have all these but still using Ivory as my main, Mona is my primary back up -- same as when it was their twitter counterparts
