At this point I want to see Carolina beat Bayamon. I don't care that it's two metro area teams. The notion of accepting money laundering $$ to bring in big names -- the same with Rob, aka "Dion", New did in Quebradillas -- needs to be stamped out immediately. #BSNPR
@dbinkowski ☹️
@fotutmagnet I talk to team owners. The league is not sustainable financially unless you make it deep into the playoffs. Paying players under the table with side contracts is ruining things and taking away opportunities for local players. Unless we get bigger stadiums, the only way the league could be a profitable business venture with these salaries would be to raise ticket prices to keep what is in place or cut salaries to make washed US players play elsewhere.
@dbinkowski Is this what Bayamon is doing?

@fotutmagnet every team has side contracts where they can funnel money from their personal businesses to players. Boogie and Whiteside got paid $100k per month, $5k from their official "league contract", $95k a month on the side.

When Anuel's tour tanked and he was forced to sell the team he almost breached his side contracts. The players were stuck because it's not supposed to be happening. Yet here we are.

I'm all for players getting $ so rather than have this side deal just raise the cap.

@dbinkowski Damn, I had no idea things go down like that!
@fotutmagnet I enjoy learning how things work so I can make my own choices. I think the league has a lot of potential if they upgrade the refereeing and pick a lane on the side contracts/business model. Without a lot to do in the evening that is air conditioned, BSN should have full stadiums imo. Unfortunately historical biases and inequity keep people away.
@dbinkowski My dad told me how things were in terms of assistance to games. Stadiums were full all season long, excitement all season long. What happened to the enthusiasm? What’s keep people from going to the games?

@fotutmagnet I can't speak for every market but if you market well you make your brand a preference. That requires having a great product and exposing it to the right audience.

Unfortunately the product hasn't met expectations and the targeting has been more limited than it should be. If you want to sell seats, the entire west side is your potential client -- not just locals.

@fotutmagnet I went out to Humacao for an away game for example and the stadium was empty. A month later, people were there.

I know some games have been scheduled on days before a holiday so people are at the beach partying all day and the games are at 6 PM.

Personally probably better they don't come, but the league should look at common sense moves like that to skip days when they know attendance will be down. Pretty sure we had the same issue with the WBC too.

@dbinkowski It’s something that makes a lot of sense. The league should take into consideration holidays and maybe 6pm is too early? A lot of people get out of work at 5, are stuck in traffic for an hour, not enough time to get to the game !
@fotutmagnet The early games are only on Sundays for some reason. I think they need to expand their markets and upgrade the product especially outside of the metro area.
@fotutmagnet Aguada has an amazing fan base, for example. When the Santeros left Mayaguez should've moved in to help convert fans. Now Isabela is getting a team so we have competition for those fans.
