En langzaam werd het poppier. Dit is nog wel een dikke plaat, maar opvolgers Yellow&Green en Purple vind ik echt reteslecht, met een slappe hap 'we willen echt doorbreken'- vibe. Dit niet, dit is vet!
20. La Guitare Du Baroque a Nos Jours
Lekker vrolijk en lichtvoetig zo, die gitaartjes. Vivaldi, Bach, Schubert, Scarlatti, niet de minsten eej.
21. The Beach Boys - 20 Golden Greats (1976)
Popmuziek-canon-rommelmarkt-aankoop. Ongelooflijk hoeveel muziek je in je hoofd opgeslagen hebt: we luisteren hier niet vaak naar de Beach Boys maar kunnen ongeveer alles meezingen. God Only Knows is onze topper.
22. The Beatles – Beatles’ Greatest (1975)
De Beatles waren een popgroep uit Engeland. Ze waren heel erg beroemd, misschien heb je wel eens van ze gehoord. Dit zijn vooral liedjes uit hun begintijd, toen ze nog niet superwild waren.
23. Bee Gees - All Time Greatest Hits (1977)
Na Beach Boys en Beatles duidelijk 't zwakke broertje in deze toevallige poptrilogie. Al wist ik niet dat To Love Somebody van hun was. Rest gaat van 'pff' en 'oh dit is kut' naar 'van die crematoriummuziek' (aldus mijn ega)
24. Beirut - Gulag Orkestar (2006)
Mijn god, wat vind ik dit mooi. Hoe een 21-jarige Amerikaan erbij komt om in zijn eentje oude melancholieke Europese volksmuziek te gaan maken? Geen idee, maar heul fijn dattie het is gaan doen.
25. Beirut - The Flying Club Cup (2007)
Nog meer weemoed naar tijden die ik niet meegemaakt heb, maar door deze prachtmuziek voor mijn gevoel toch een beetje wel.

27. The Beta Band - Assessment 12" (2004)
Nerdyhippieindiesixtiespsychpop, ofzo? Vooral Three EP's en vervolgband The Aliens zijn fijn (check Bobby's Song!) maar deze gaan ook goed, vooral de remix op kant B. (Die staat dan helaas niet op de streamingdiensten)
28. Brant Bjork and the Bros - Saved By Magic (2005)
De coolste dude van de Palm Desert levert een lekkere maar niet de beste woestijn-plaat ooit, maar relaxte vibes zijn relaxte vibes. Superlekkere drumsound ook.
29. Blaak Heat Shujaa - The Edge of an Era (2013)
Nog meer Palm Desert: deze Fransozen emigreerden er speciaal naar toe om er vette shit te maken, en dat is prima gelukt. Geen standaard stoner, maar spannende toei met midden-oosterse melodieën. Aanrader!
30. The Black Heart Procession + Solbakken - In the Fishtank 11 (2004)
2 bands uitnodigen in de studio om in 2 dagen samen een plaat te maken, een tof concept. Bij editie 11 pakt dat ook lekker uit. Fijne nummers, stemmige sfeer.
31. Black Mountain - Black Mountain (2005)
Bij deze Canadezen kan ik bijna al mijn 'hier hou ik van' vinkjes zetten: sound, seventies, psychedelisch, dynamiek, groove, weird. En dan ook nog één van mijn favo zangeressen en drummers.
32. Black Mountain - In the Future (2008)
Tyrants! Wucan! Veel mooier en vetter wordt het nie mense. Tyrants vooral! Hoe die na het 1e stuk stilvalt en superspannend en leeg doorgaat, die opbouw en die goddelijke zang en die gitaren en die climax och wa mooi.
33. Black Mountain - Wilderness Heart (2010)
Eén van de mooiste locaties waar ik ooit een band zag was na deze plaat op Incubate, in een natuurtheater in de Oisterwijkse bossen. Favo's hier: bijna alles ;) maar vooral Rollercoaster.
34. Black Mountain - IV (2016)
Mothers of the Sun! Iconischer jaren 70 kun je het bijna niet hebben. Verder vind ik dit niet zo'n sterke plaat als de vorigen, al is ook Space to Bakersfield top.
35. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970)
We zijn aanbeland bij de heiligen der heiligen (occult-wise dan he). De eerst 4 albums zijn de zaden waaruit zoveel verschillende machtige zwarte bloemen zijn gaan bloeien. All Hail Sabbath! (met een cameo van kat Koetje)

Donker en duister. Door de controverse (wist ik niet toen ik 'm van mijn schatje kreeg, zij ook niet. De platenzaak-dude tipte 't hmmm) vooral zitten lezen over andere tegen fascisme aanschurkende bands.
38. Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Dolores (2008)
Prachtig hoe deze Duitsers zó leeg en spaarzaam spelen en daar zóveel moois mee doen.
39. Boney M - Nightflight to Venus (1978)
Rare band, rare plaat. Sure, het gros is catchy discopop, maar er gebeurt in elk nummer toch wel iets geks, tofs of subtiels. Eindigen met een Neil Young cover ook. Die Frankie Farian was me d'r inne, of nie dan Milli Vanilli.
40. Bongripper - Satan Worshipping Doom (2010)
Dikke vette doom die ongeveer net zo dik en vet is als de hoes lelijk. Riff na riff is raak. Was overweldigend live op Roadburn, al zagen ze er net wat te fris uit voor true satanisten bejja
41. Boogieman - Triple Six Blues (2003)
Toen stonerrock nog een dingetje was. Dit is de uptempo variant die wel lekker weghapt hoor. Zin om met een fles bier in een donker zaaltje te staan, met 50 andere gasten die ook van onbekende kutbandjes houden

I love bands like Boris, who are all over the place and do whatever they like. Sure, there’s albums I don’t like at all, but Pink is awesome: #shoegaze, #garagenoiserock, #doom, #stoner and more. Yeah!
43. Jacques Brel - De 24 Grootste Successen
What an intense guy this must have been. I can feel his deliverance to the bone. He’s definitely more heavy than a lot of guitar bands

Supposedly a great band in history, so bought it for a few euros. Well, apart from Eight Miles High I think this is really boring.
47. Various Artists - 25 Jaar Bullit (2004)
Bullit in Eindhoven was where me and my metalbuddy Karel went to in the 80’s for our metalalbums, by bike for 15 km.
When he bought Bonded by Blood, I chose Master of Puppets, so we could tape it for each other right away when we got back.
19 years ago Bullit was there for 25 years and this record was to celebrate with (at the time)(sort of) Eindhoven’s finest.
48. Camera - Remember I Was Carbon Dioxide (2014)
Playing kraut is easy, but playing good kraut is more of a challenge. This one’s awesome and inspired

49. Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Hawk (2010)
Been fortunate to be able to see Lanegan 6 or 7 times, and I was of course mesmerized by his voice everytime. From his show with Isobel Campbell I mostly remember that she forgot her first lines in a song, gestured to the band to stop and saved it in a very charming way. Heck, Lanegan even smiled!

Some 20 years ago Selim was my coworker and we bonded pretty quickly. He was fan of my band and I loved his doom-outfit Red King Rising. A few years later I heard the demo for his new band The Devil’s Blood. Although it sounded crappy, the songs were a whole new level. I was an instant fanboy and probably always will stay a fanboy.

Selim was a funny and entertaining dude. He chose to embrace his demons, instead of trying to run from them. That came with a lot of musical gems but also the decision to quit halfway making this album. Lyrics of the 22 minute opener I Was Promised A Hunt has the words ‘My words were never made for you to hum…’
72. Les Discrets - Arrietes Oubliées (2012)
First time I heard Les Discrets was at #Roadburn 2015 and was immediately mesmerized by the sheer beauty of their music. This album is equally excellent.
73. Doe Maar - 4US (1983)
Ongeveer 12 was ik, toen Doe Maar de bom was. En groot fan :)
Op mijn 15e niet meer, dus toen heb ik alle 3 de platen geruild tegen een Iron Maiden EP. En alleen ooit 4US 2ehands teruggekocht blijkbaar (met flinke beschadigingen, zie 2e foto). Toen 4US uitkwam, vond ik ’m niet zo goed. Pa vond ik te popi en Heroïne te schreeuwerig. Nu valt me op hoe lekker ze spelen, met de groove van Lajeninaja als fijn hoogtepunt.

76. DOOL - Here Now There Then (2017)
DOOL is absolutely my favorite Dutch band from the last few years. The perfect combination of doomy, gloomy vibes and catchy rock. Taking inspiration from The Devil’s Blood (including having 3 guitar players so it’s still heavy during twin solos) they absolutely deliver.
77. DOOL - Summerland (2020)
And Summerland is even better. Title track is a monster and the record is packed with hooks.
78. Various - Double Hard (1981)
Big names, decent compilation, but not my cup of tea anymore. Except Ace of Spades, Demolition Boys, Doctor Doctor and Paranoid of course.
