*these diehard people have likely never been actually asked to leave FB for their own and others' good and are just blissfully 😗🎶
@LargeTesticles @pileofgarbage @s_ridenour it's tough. I was really reluctant to leave Twitter to make Mastodon primary. I'm even moreso now to sideline Mastodon to make something else primary (I've done this before with Tumblr).
People feel 10-100x more reluctant than I do, to get off FB and/or to resist Bluesky. I get it! I hate that I get that making even a first migration is just really distasteful and seems like a hassle. It is!
@LargeTesticles @pileofgarbage @s_ridenour all of this is complicated by my continued use of SAF, which has had many moments where principled folks would have and did leave because of (perceived) pernicious toxicity/immorality. I didn't and I'm glad I didn't but it's not exactly something to be proud of. It has a subforum I like and lots of info I like/need in other subforums. I just prefer forums as social media for function/vibes reasons, and they have minimal privacy concerns.

But for some, maybe like Garbo, this is an opportunity to finally break away from association with shitheads and there is a guilt-free carob-based alternative (Masto) to fill the void. That being the case I respect that. None of what I've written ITT is to persuade Garbo or LT to move off their positions, just explain why others are

Masto just doesn’t have it. It isn’t fun posting here, and there doesn’t seem to be a Masto equivalent of Weird Twitter.

The Mastodon active userbase increased by 50% (1.2 million to 1.8 million) in the past week so that kind of operability is unlikely to improve soon– the site was down yesterday for hours.
Vibes do matter. If you told me BS was exactly like say 2018 Twitter including all the accounts I followed, I can't say I wouldn't at least try it

sorry to butt in, but blueski has a special feed thing where you could optionally ONLY see the canoe on your tl and nothing else (or vice-versa). one advantage over all the other sites imo are the plentiful ways it offers to customise what enters your eyes. i find mastodon somewhat inscrutable/ugly/poorly designed in comparison but also i exclusively want to talk to you guys and like two other people basically, sooooo

Masto's a tough customer aesthetically but on iOS the free app IceCubes pretties it up a bit for me imo
