CNN & FOX News have done to our parents exactly what they thought Marylin Manson and violent video games would do to us.
@MostlyHarmless I've never been more grateful that my 74-year-old father doesn't watch Fox News. He's conservative, but has voted for Democrats the last three presidential elections in a row because, as he put it, "I'm not a fucking idiot."

@feverspell @MostlyHarmless

Jealous, my 92yr father is completely absorbed. He adores Trump who in his mind "can do no wrong." Fortunately though, we don't talk politics very much and can still enjoy each other's company.

On the election, I tried to tell him, "C'mon dad, you've been through so many elections and you know how they work. Every candidate has an opportunity to prove misconduct. To date, there's no evidence." This comment fell flat, as if I was staring into a void.

@Gleng2 @MostlyHarmless Maybe it's because we're from Chicago, and a Chicago Republican isn't quite the same breed as a Mississippi Republican. Or any current red state. He's somewhat liberal when it comes to social issues, but very conservative when it comes to money. He just thinks the current GOP has lost their goddamn minds. I tend to agree. When he voted for Obama in 2012, he said that was the first time he voted for a Democrat since McGovern.
@feverspell @MostlyHarmless Mine's a bit more entrenched. He'll ALWAYS vote Republican, no matter who it is. And at 92, there's just no room for change.
@Gleng2 @MostlyHarmless I'm sorry you're dealing with that. I know a lot of people in your shoes, and it sucks. My mother was pretty apolitical before she died, but she knew enough about who these people were that she didn't vote for any of them either. At 92, the best you can do is just sort of go, "Yes, yes, Dad, the Democrats are evil" and try and change the subject. LOL
