Little-known fact: I worked on the Met Office weather app as one of my first projects in the industry (working at an agency).

We added warnings to the app. Still to this day, one of my favourite pieces of work I’ve ever worked on is the UI that shows you _when_ the warning is in force.

Original designs just had raw dates, but we scrutinised this and decided to use human language like “now”, “tomorrow” or “Sunday”, which requires significantly less cognitive load (made easier since warnings are only ever issued maximum 7 days in advance).

Warnings are important and can save lives, you shouldn’t have to _think_ about when it affects you by knowing today’s date and then counting forward. “Now” is so powerful and unambiguous.

This is a lesson I’ve tried to take with me in every project since; how can things be better for the user, but still convey the same information that the business needs?

This should be a priority

@Brtnz that I wholeheartedly agree with
@kanec timing of met office prediction only an hour out. Tstorm kicking off now
