@Wednesday I like that they (claim to be planning to) set it up so we don't have to, we can still (in theory) communicate with those who do. It's at least a massive step up from twitter where they are charging ridiculous fees for API access. And it takes the mastodon system closer to being a widely accepted open standard protocol, even if many servers refuse to federate with threads.
I hope defcon.social doesn't refuse to federate, mainly because I would want to have the option to be able to follow threads users (and I expect that would be necessary), and I sure don't want to make an account of my own on threads.
