I suspect much of the excitement over Threads is

A. Bots & farms, come on we all know how this works

B. Some big names were paid to migrate on day one (not mad about it, why wouldn’t they)

C. Huge heaps of schadenfreude because Elon has been such a horrific shit everyone wants to see him cry

It may stick after all those have subsided…but it’s still Facebook in the end. They don’t need more opportunities to curdle brains

@catvalente it comes with a built in network because when setting up there you can already follow your instagram contacts, which I guess is easier than searching for everyone all over again?

the privacy conditions and actual functionality sound horrific

@vae_everywhere But you can’t bring your own followers with you, so they have to sign up for Threads themselves
@catvalente yep, which I guess is what they're counting on - the lure of people they know. As long as they're not in the EU.
@catvalente also everyone on Mastodon is seemingly hostile to anyone who makes a different choice
@monkeyhole I’m not hostile at all I just don’t have the energy to maintain a feed on 4+ different services
@catvalente yeah, I'm referring to a general trend I'm seeing... and adding a reason to your list that people may be heading over to alternative social media sites, flawed as they may be. Your points are all valid. Especially the Elon one, lol
@catvalente Have played with it - the dominant discussion is how shiny the new prison is and how much better it is than the old prison
@trif @catvalente that's it right there. Great depiction.
Facebook's Threads is so depressing

Like a $19 turkey sandwich at an airport
