A Wearable LEDs Story.

(Longish thread, photos/video at the end)

✨ Please do not give advice or explain anything. ✨

So I've been trying to track down and sort out "a glitch" in my LED cloak for weeks and weeks, basically since my last big event. I wasn't able to sit down and take it seriously until now, and my light (ha) stabs at it weren't working. In the last 24 hours I have tracked down and sorted:

1. The connection at the tip of the hood was glitching and had to be undone and re-soldered, pixel to JST. Behavior was clear, but the first resolder didn't work. Still no idea why. I know from experience sometimes using hot glue and solder rapidly in succession can mess with things, maybe that. Second resolder takes. It's all micro, finicky soldering, a bit of testing (the second time), a lot of crossing fingers, and a lot of skill via experience, honestly. It works.

But turns out, of course, that wasn't all, at all.

2. My power is still funky. I check mains power lines, turns out the custom switch I installed had broken at *one* wire where I neglected to use hot glue (there are dozens of these connections everywhere. I'm forgiven, but it's a pain to track down.) It's buried pretty deep in the cloak, so this takes a while. Take the switch out, solder a direct USB line. Ok. Working.

But that's not all. The injected backup power is turning OFF half the cloak when I turn the switch to the backup battery ON. Funky as hell. I suspect the USB pack itself and have to rule that out. (Still mildly suspect it, Amazon shit is SHIT). My soldering is solid, so wtf. I eventually pry apart the switch. Joins test out. It's internal to the *switch mechanism.* Visually undetectable. It's failed. Stare at it, hoping it feels shame. Cut that out and fab straight to USB.

Ok! Yay! It's working! I try it on.

4. Not quite friendo! There is a glitch at the bottom of the cloak. Glitches with movement. Hard to see, but this ain't my first wearable rodeo. Straightforward busted pixel behavior, but these are the new pebbles, and I haven't seen them bust. Sure 'nough, I track down the pixel, the wires are good. I breathe deep and trust it's somehow internal. I cut it out *and replace it*. This is wild to do with this form factor.

I did it. Done! This is the LED troubleshooting that is required with epic wearables. It is a satisfying practice when you accept it. Wearables are such tricky and underestimated beasts. I expect to be back at this after two to three more events. That's the job.

Note: It's not possible to individually heat shrink pebble wires so I meticulously soldered, then flooded the joins with hot glue, used proper size clear heat shrink, covered and sealed. Works a treat.

Finally, to celebrate a happy LED story ending, a quick video.
@LaserMistress I want that cloak!
