Will Clark@jkottke Unless existing users are opt-in to Threads, they'd have to sign up 10k users every minute for 24 straight hours to be “more users in 1 day”. That’s... not going to happen.
Jonathan Caprell@robotdeathsquad @jkottke It looks like Threads 10x-ed the existing Mastodon active user base (1.2m-ish) already.
@jbcaprell @jkottke That's not an apples to oranges comparison (active vs total signups). But they did get much closer to matching the total users in 1 day than I expected. Much faster than Bluesky as well.
@robotdeathsquad @jkottke I took users to be, well, users-who-use, but Threads is definitely larger than Mastodon on the total signups metric too, if mastodon-analytics.com is even close to accurate. 30M+ Threads accounts. Not assigning good-or-bad to that, but Mastodon is just vv small!
