I won't be creating an account on #Threads because I deactivated my Facebook and Instagram accounts years ago because:
- Cambridge Analytica
- Myanmar genocide
- Long history of incitement of hate and disinformation for profit
- Helping Fox News drive senior citizens into conspiracy-theory madness

I have no objection (yet) to federating with Threads or following people there. I just refuse to look at their ads or follow their algorithm.

@dgoldsmith bazinga. my current stance exactly.

Thumbs up!
I can't stand the company's ethics, so I've always stayed away from anything facebook/meta related. And I won't change that now.

However, I have to say that my only contact with facebook has actually been surprisingly pleasant. Years ago, when my daughter was born, someone set up a facebook account in her name. I asked support to delete it and they took care of it within a few hours. :-)

@dgoldsmith same here. That plus they profit off of making vulnerable users addicted to their services. Awful company.

One of my old colleagues recently said that having Meta on your CV makes employers less likely to hire you for design roles, so I do think people are more aware of these things than they used to be.

@dgoldsmith im glad someone remembers Cambridge analytica.
@dgoldsmith hiya, you got a new follower 🖖
@dgoldsmith you forgot Brexit, Trump, the polarisation of politics in a world scale. The promotion of fake news, antivaxxing, antimasking, flat-Earth believing content.

I honestly don't know how can Zuckerberg sleep at night.

Sure his bed must have 1000-threads cotton sheets but...why would he leave it in the morning to set foot on the destroyed world he's responsible for creating?
@maikel Didn't forget anything; I just didn't want to take the time to list it all. 😉

@[email protected] Did you know [Libs of Tiktok](https://www.threads.net/@libsoftiktokofficial) and [PragerU](https://www.threads.net/@prageru) are both on threads.net on public release day 1? They are both organizations who actively work towards trans genocide! Unless Meta plans on deleting their accounts, I don't see why any of the fediverse should allow hate organizations (which literally have been harassing other people on threads.net non-stop today) to be a part of us.

@dgoldsmith yeah. I’m kinda slowly getting there. As someone who’s about all sorts of things media, I struggle with turning my back on those. But I’m tired of them.
