If you visit #birdsite (eg to promote #Fediverse) you will notice a real quality drop in the ads, and a real shift to more fashy bigot disinfo in the general posts.

Personally I hope
#Elon #Musk ruins #Twitter fully before he gets the chance to have a real influence on the #American elections. We saw what happened with #Turkey's elections. #Meme #Politics #USAPolitics #USPol
@ArtBear is that why they're scrambling for eyeballs?!
@rood
I would advance the speculation that influence over billions in various worldwide Gvt's subsidies, regulation & resource allocation (lithium etc) may have played some part in Musk deciding to pay $44billion for Twitter. A lot of his decisions don't make commercial sense without that perspective. Feigned stupidity can be a great cover for less pleasant motives.

It's a bit like buying journalism.
How much is it?
$44billion
How much profits and subsidies are at stake?
100s of billions. Longerm Trillions.
Hrmmm, ok, buy it.

@ArtBear that makes sense. I was assuming they were all monstering around in an attempt to stifle innovation from non-US tech. Maybe the Fediverse potential actually threatens the long term future of Meta apps which are becoming more like kiddy pools every day. Same reason Microsoft unloads cash on Linux projects. Swamp and oversaturate to drive off people that are starting to thrive in a secondary system.
