This is a very good point that I have also thought of.

All the ideas I've thought of are dependent on #SMAUthors actions -- things like always remembering to tag every single #smau post, or things like creating a group to follow on something like Chirp. Having that control in the hands of any user would obviously be much better. We don't want to have to block someone entirely bc there's no other alternative to SMAUs totally clogging our timelines.

Anybody have ideas for how to filter out #smau posts without blocking authors? It's going to overwhelm the local timeline and I'm not interested.

@LCWebsXOXO @Knitbelove I'm worried about this actually. Will tagging each post with # smau work?
@creepypaper @Knitbelove It's definitely something workable as long as it's consistently done. (And thankfully, there's an edit button if someone forgets)
@LCWebsXOXO @creepypaper @Knitbelove The problem then is if there's some you want to follow and some you don't, or if you still want to see people talking about them. Not that I have any idea what the solution to that would be.
@flawedamythyst @creepypaper @Knitbelove I have a hunch that groups may be the answer. More looking into that is necessary tho
@flawedamythyst @creepypaper @Knitbelove I think then, all someone would have to do is block or mute that group and not the whole #smau hashtag? True to their form as a subset that Makes Shit Happen, the Canyon has already set up a Mastodon group. So like. Maybe a canyonite has more insight.
@LCWebsXOXO @creepypaper @Knitbelove Yeah, that sounds hopeful. I...do not know enough about any of this to really know what works and what doesn't.

@flawedamythyst @creepypaper @Knitbelove I think it's my current #UndiagnosedADHD hyperfixation, which would explain why I'm sprinting up this learning curve.

Anyway, will report back.

Ok yeah this is pretty kickass and I believe it's the answer. A SMAUthor can just create a group, then people can follow the group's @ just like if it was a person's account. Or mute/block, of they wish.

@LCWebsXOXO @flawedamythyst @Knitbelove Bookmarking. I've also considered adding a specific hashtag with the smau title, and then tagging each post so it's easier to filter
@LCWebsXOXO @flawedamythyst @creepypaper the question then is how to get folks to actually use those instead of posting directly on their accounts
@Knitbelove @flawedamythyst @creepypaper If I'm reading it right, you can just post from your account and @ the group. People can mute the group. Caveat if you forget to @ the group in a smau post of course. But if I'm understanding correctly, they can mute the group in order to miss your smau posts but not have to block you. We should run a test, methinks
@LCWebsXOXO @creepypaper @Knitbelove Ah, fantastic, that does look like the best way.
@flawedamythyst @creepypaper @Knitbelove wanna run a test today?
@LCWebsXOXO @flawedamythyst @Knitbelove I don't have the bandwidth to think and test yet 😄 If I do try it out, I'll let you all know
@creepypaper @flawedamythyst @Knitbelove It's ok, we did some testing yesterday and it... Did not work as I had thought it would. Several extra steps that I think would turn SMAUthors off of cross posting here at all. Seems to me at this point that just making an acct for the SMAU itself would be the easiest option
@LCWebsXOXO @flawedamythyst @Knitbelove that makes sense. I tried reading up a bit on groups and it seemed a little more challenging than I'd initially imagined
