Rather than being "terrified" by this expected consequence of human-caused warming, we should be motivated to act--in particular, holding politicians accountable at the ballot box. Only when we bring carbon emissions to zero does the warming stop:

@MichaelEMann the politicians are responsible just because they with no skills want to be the richest cadaver in the swampy river graveyard!
Basically they are imbeciles that can't think, reason of have as any empathy!
A short drop at Tyburn might be all I would give them!

To ‘hold politicians accountable’ we must first hold ourselves accountable. They’re only doing what most of us want: denying and/or writing off climate change and studiously avoiding the promotion of any behavioural change that might rock the consumer or corporate boat. We could start with advertising.
