When Will the City Council Stand Up to Eric Adams?  - Hell Gate

A budget vote, veto, and primary election all collide during a humid week in New York City.

Maybe they'll write more stern letters? https://social.ridetrans.it/@Andres4NY/109963034094754679

But more likely they'll just continue to roll over and let Adams do what he wants. https://social.ridetrans.it/@Andres4NY/109701260176628549

Attached: 1 image Look, #NYC may have completely lawless roads with drivers breaking traffic laws with impunity, but on the bright side at least the executive branch can ALSO break laws with impunity because our city council doesn't hold anyone accountable either. https://gothamist.com/news/brooklyn-street-where-cyclist-was-killed-has-been-ignored-despite-other-deaths-residents-say #FuckEricAdams

‘we didn’t know what we were voting on’ is a load of 💩.
Seriously. Its the biggest part of your $150k job - too complex: hire someone to help.

I literally showed my Council Member this plot BEFORE she voted. I saw her eyes look at the plot. I used my words to explain to her that per student funding was being slashed.

I don’t think she understood. She voted for the budget. I understood — the prospect of punishment by CM speaker made everyone fall in line.

@atthenius @Andres4NY what's really bugging me here is -- I don’t believe for a microsecond that Eric Fucking Adams understands this budget either, or had any direct involvement in putting it together. (Seriously, can you even imagine?)

So... who actually wrote it? Seems like the sort of question some actual journalist might want to try to answer.

@memory @Andres4NY

Good question. Obvious answer would be his buddy, Mr. Eagle-Academy-Charter-School. But its probably some vomit-worthy mega funder orchestrating it.

@atthenius @Andres4NY Tbh I've been looking at this chart and I have no idea what it means so maybe that's part of the problem too, I don't find this intuitive at all but I assume you explained it while showing it 🤷‍♂️

Well, its a little out of context now. At the time, nyc edu folks were upset that NYC was cutting $400 million from the school budget, supposedly b/c of decreasing enrollment. If that were the case, these dots would fall on a 1:1 line with decreasing enrollment highly correlated to budget cuts. Instead, the dots fall below that ‘line’, meaning that cuts outpaced enrollment decreases. Everything else is just details.
