MakerTube

A home for makers, musicians, artists and DIY content creators

@polykit that's great! thank you for that! I see that you are taking donations via liberapay (great way!) with a goal of 50€ per month (edited later: I was wrong, it is actually per week!). Do you have any kind of forecast how this will allow you to run in the future? Meaning: would that cover server costs with enough disk and bandwidth capacity in the forseeable future?
@claudius 50 Euros is per week, this will cover my first plans of setting up two servers with at least somewhat redundancy. I mean when MakerTube is actually getting big much more money is needed of course.

@polykit Yes, per week. My Mistake :-) That sounds much more reasonable!

From what I gathered over the years, the problem appears to be storage costs for the back-catalog of videos you eventually collect.

@claudius Yes, that's true, object storage is usually quite expensive at the cloud providers. I decided for bare metal with my own redundant object storage like Google in the first days. I mean it can only grow as far as donations allow it, it's that simple.
@polykit I'm glad you're going with your own servers. That way, at least, you won't run into any surprises with rising costs. (also, personally, I would have hated to have my videos served from some amazon or google machine).
