I highly value altruism, but I know its fragility.

So I think Meta should be blocked.

Furthermore, I think it would be cool to give him a kick in the ass. I think that a collective kick in the ass of "Meta" would be the greatest poem of the 21st century.

#threads #Meta #fediverse #mastodon

@harriorrihar Meta will suck the life out of us, by using the #fediverse content to bootstrap #Threads in a "growth-hacking" way, and then once they have momentum, they will break out from the federation. I believe in a preemptive strike to deferate threads.

#meta #mastodon #defederatemeta

@jackoneill @harriorrihar i think this should be a per user choice you can allready block instances you if dont like them.

and i really dont think meta does need to steel mastodon content to grow, honestly.

@geg2048 @jackoneill

From what I understand, there is a possibility that a percentage of the #Fediverse will block #meta, and #threads will go down the toilet, never to return. This will not happen with individual locks.

@harriorrihar @jackoneill i dont think the fediverse blocking thread is a huge concern for meta and if it is i am pretty shure they can circumvent the block somehow like using totallynotmeta.com as an instance proxy for accessing the activitypub.
they probably do this because of the digital gatekeepers EU legislation

@geg2048 @jackoneill

Well, it's not about what might affect Meta, it's about what might affect the fediverse. It's protection.

@harriorrihar @jackoneill how would more users hurt the fediverse?
i think it is a huge benefit to be able to interact with more people without needing to use there spyware apps.

@harriorrihar @jackoneill but thanks to the EU DMA https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/priorities-2019-2024/europe-fit-digital-age/digital-markets-act-ensuring-fair-and-open-digital-markets_en they are no longer allowed to close external access after they aggregated all the users.
in fact they have to activlay open up there services for third parties. so killing xmpp like google did is now in fact illegal.

@harriorrihar @jackoneill the DMA is probably the only reason why meta even borthers to deal with the activity pub. there are no benefits opening up there platform for others. so i agree that they will probably do the bare minimum to support the fediverse so all we need to do is to keep improving mastodon kbin an lemmy so peapol dont want to use thread anymore and if they choose to switch they dont face the barrier of needing to leave behind the ones that stay

@geg2048 @jackoneill

A lock still seems much easier to me. Your proposal reminds me of a bear taking the honeycomb after the bees have worked it.

@harriorrihar indeed, first priority is to ensure they don't somehow control this ecosystem by joining it. but second would be peacefully maintaining interopability so that the Fediverse is connected to a larger network.

@markcrowley

Meta's sole purpose is to control the system while users react peacefully. This is what they have been doing since 2008.
