Y'all, Meta isn't launching their Twitter alike in the EU because it would be _literally illegal there_ due to all the privacy and data collection issues they plan on having: https://www.independent.ie/business/technology/no-instagram-threads-app-in-the-eu-irish-dpc-says-metas-new-twitter-rival-wont-be-launched-here/a1927220337.html

...and some of you want to federate with them?!?!

No Instagram Threads app in the EU: Irish DPC says Meta's new Twitter rival won't be launched here

Meta will not launch its new Twitter rival, Threads, in Ireland or the EU for the foreseeable future.

"They haven't done anything wrong yet!"
Meta: (would rather skip out on the entire European market than not be as evil as possible)
lol
https://techcrunch.com/2023/07/04/cjeu-meta-superprofiling-decision/ - Meta also lost a case in the EU today about sharing data between their services without user consent and have to knock it the heck off on that front, FYI.

@gourd on the silver lining side this whole kerfuffle has been a great way of trimming down my reading list “oh, so you’re dumber than a sack of wet mice too? Ok cheers” *delete from netnewswire*
@gourd Thank you for this posting. Makes my morning that much better already.

You know an app will be a privacy nightmare when even Ireland steps in and tells you that you overdone it.

Normally they tend to be very protective of Big Tech...
